A war memorial called the India Gate, formerly known as the All India War Memorial, is situated close to the Kartavya Path on the eastern side of New Delhi’s “ceremonial axis,” also known as the duty path. The Imperial War Graves Commission (IWGC), which was established in December 1918 while India was ruled by the British, was responsible for creating war graves and memorials for soldiers who died in the First World War.
