The Gommateshwara statue is a 57-foot (17-meter) high monolithic statue located on Vindhyagiri Hill in the town of Shravanbelagola in the Indian state of Karnataka. One of the tallest monolithic statues in ancient history, it was carved from a single block of granite. The Gommateshwara statue, which honors the Jain figure Bahubali, symbolizes the Jain principles of peace, nonviolence, the sacrifice of worldly matters, and simple living. One of the largest free-standing statues in the world.
