The Security Council is one of the six core UN bodies established by the UN Charter. The Security Council, which can convene whenever peace is threatened, is given crucial responsibilities for maintaining global harmony and security. On January 17, 1946, they had their first encounter in Westminster’s Church House in England. Since its initial meeting, the UN Security Council has called the UN’s headquarters in New York City home. As part of its travels, it also visited several urban areas, having meetings in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in 1972, Panama City, Panama, and Geneva, Switzerland, in 1990.
